Busy time ahead for Plymouth Lions Club
The Lions Club of Plymouth have a busy few months ahead with a variety of events
Last year’s Dartmoor Walk presentation of trophies and prizes will be made by the Lord Mayor to the winning teams at the Lord Mayor’s Parlour on February 19, which will be attended by many good of the participants.
March sees the annual charity Swimarathon event held over a two day period at the Saltash Swimming and Leisure Pool on March 3 and 4 when teams of five members swim as many lengths of the pool as possible over a time period of 50 minutes. Each team is sponsored with proceeds being evenly divided between the Lions chosen charities ‘New Life’ for disabled children and St Luke’s Hospice together with the team’s chosen charity.
The Lions club are inviting knitters to join a charitable knitting event at Emmanuel Church Hall, Mannamead, on April 14. This annual event involves the participants being sponsored to knit as many regulation squares as possible in an allotted time period. The proceeds will be donated to Diabetes UK and Plymouth Bereavement Counselling.
Lions club members will be involved in various fairs, carnivals and fetes in and around the Plymouth area during May.
Meanwhile the annual charity golf event takes place at Staddon Heights Golf Club on June 8. This event is for teams of four players ladies, gents or mixed, played on a four ball stableford format with trophies and prizes for the winning teams. There are also prizes for nearest the pin on two holes plus a two’s competition. All proceeds from this event will be presented equally to two Lion Charities, soon to be chosen.
This year’s charitable Dartmoor Walk will held on July 15, starting and finishing at Walkhampton Village Hall covering a 10mile distance with check points and refreshment stations en-route. All proceeds from this event will be presented equally to two Lion charities.
