Support means so much to Saltash mum and daughter

Saltash Rugby Club hosted a spectacular fundraising event on September 22, organised by mother and daughter Michelle Morritt and Charlotte Barriball.

An evening of glamour and dancing made the most of the Rugby Club’s excellent facilities, and 15 stalls helped attendees get out their wallets to support a worthy cause.

The stalls sold everything from fashion, crafts, homemade gifts, books, pamper products, cakes and sweets, and many locals and friends and family of Charlotte came out to join in the fun.

Three charities dear to Charlotte’s heart were supported with a total of £1002.39 raised for Maddie’s Butterflies, the Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund and Torbay Holiday Helpers Network.

All the monies raised will go towards improving the quality of respite care for children and young adults on their cancer journeys. Charlotte singled out these three as they had provided care for her and helped her deal with the many issues facing a young person who has been diagnosed with cancer.

The timing of the fundraising event was particularly poignant as Charlotte took her final chemotherapy tablet the following day, marking the end of her two-and-a-half-year treatment journey.

Charlotte showed remarkable resilience throughout her treatment raising a total to date of £9610.14. She also handed over a cheque for £2428.50 to Dr Wimalendra, her own Oncology Consultant, which will be used to provide equipment for an Oncology room to help children and young adults cope with regular stays in hospital. Charlotte herself has had many of these stays and knows how important it is to have the right resources around you at these times.

Charlotte has also raised money for Little Princess who provide wigs, and Tanya’s Courage Trust and DCCS who offer teen and child support.

Charlotte will continue to raise awareness and funds for Children and Young Adult Cancer Support as she now recovers and builds her strength back up to normal.

The final word on this remarkable young person and the journey she and her family have gone through goes to mum, Michelle, who says,

“I would like to thank all the medical teams at Bristol and Derriford. Their knowledge and expertise in Oncology is second to none and the care they gave Charlotte will remain with me for life. And I’m indebted to all our family and friends and those amazing charities who supported us over the last two and a half years. Charlotte is such a strong young lady and now deserves all the happiness and luck on her new journey. We couldn’t have got through without you .”

Michelle has suggested that If you would like to support Charlotte and any of the cancer charities who supported her, please contact Michelle directly on and she can put you in touch.
