Youth Council hosts first Youth Awards

As the general secretary of the Saltash Town Youth Council, and the reporter for the youth section of the Love Saltash Magazine, I was delighted to attend the Youth Council’s first youth awards evening on in December 2017.The event was to mark the 25th anniversary of the Youth Council, and it turned out to be one of the most prestigious youth celebrations of its kind seen in Saltash for many years. It was a stunning event, of which the pictures speak for themselves.

There were over 13 special award categories where numerous young people were presented with framed certificates for their outstanding achievements, much to their delight. Young people from local youth organisations (Livewire, Page2Stage and Essa Drama) entertained magnificently to the over 100 people who were present.

The evening was neon themed with evening attire and illuminated décor throughout the hall at the Saltash Social Club, the event venue.

A delicious supper was enjoyed by all present to include mocktails.

Throughout the whole of the evening, there were cheers of encouragement, delight, admiration and congratulations in abundance.

The organising working group of the Saltash Town Youth Council (Stephanie Tambling, Stephanie Carter, Sue Hooper MBE, Ffion Stanton, Cami Smith and Len Maddock) were keen to thank so many people who had helped to make this wonderful event such an outstanding success. This included Saltash Social Club members and staff (for the venue), Andy and Julie Rance and Livewire Youth project for all their kind support and for allowing Livewire building to be used for organising meetings, and Andy setting up all the PA equipment on the evening. They also thanked Livewire’s Young people who entertained (Nicole Higgins and Mitch Slim-Fitzpatrick), Page2Stage young people for their group acting and Essa Drama School (Amelia Sissons for her humorous recital); all their performances were fabulous and received great applause from the young audience. Thanks were also given to Kaye Bonner and Alan Meatyard, the lively comperes, who kept the evening flowing with humour. Thanks also to Saltash Mayor and Consort Councillor Jean Dent and Bill Dent.

Great appreciation was also conveyed to the generous sponsors and contributors for the prestigious event: Spinnaker International, Saltash Cornwall Councillors, Saltash Town Council, Plymouth Argyle, Printminor/Able Print, Travis Perkins, Windy Ridge Restaurant, Sue Hooper Charitable Foundation, Saltash.net School, Community Action Through Sport (CATS), Cornwall Youth ‘Your Way’.

Great pride in Saltash young people was very evident.

Rose Bonner
