There are many hardworking charities in Plymouth, from national not-for-profit organisations to local community outreaches. Here are a few examples, many of which have been featured in our publications.
Of course, there are also numerous national charities in Plymouth such as the British Red Cross; Cancer Research UK; RNLI; the Salvation Army etc. However, in this short post, we endeavour to highlight the work of five local charities we get to work with.
- Shekinah provides support for people who are homeless, vulnerable or in crisis in Plymouth and the surrounding area. They offer a range of services, including housing, training, education and employment support.
- St Luke’s Hospice provides palliative care for people with life-limiting illnesses and their families in Plymouth and surrounding areas. They offer a range of services, including residential patient care, day hospice, and community care.
- Jeremiah’s Journey is a charity that provides support for children and families who have experienced the death of a parent or sibling. They offer a range of services, including one-to-one support, group sessions, and memory-making activities.
- The Plymouth Foodbank provides emergency food parcels for people in crisis in Plymouth and the surrounding area. They work with a range of referral agencies to ensure that people receive the support they need.
- Devon Mind provides support for people with mental health problems in Plymouth and across the county. They offer a range of services, including counselling, befriending, and group activities.
Let’s celebrate local charities in Plymouth
At Cornerstone Vision we recognise the work of national and local charities working for the good of the city and surrounding areas. We achieve this through sharing good news stories via The Plymouth Chronicle. Our managing director, Ian Pilkington also hosts Community Matters on Cross Rhythms, Community Radio on 96.3FM. This series on our local community radio station features interviews with charities, community groups and local organisations.
