Read The Chronicle – The widely known home of positive news about Plymouth

If you’re looking for positive news about Plymouth, you need go no further than the Plymouth Chronicle. Edited by Chris Girdler who is upbeat about the future of the city, and published by the team here at Cornerstone Vision, The Chronicle is full of good news about Britain’s Ocean City, positioning Plymouth as a great place to live, work, study or visit.

What’s happening in Plymouth? What’s going on in Plymstock? Will Plymouth airport reopen? Plymouth news in my area. Plymouth LIVE comments. Plymouth FC news. Plymouth news BBC or Plymouth newsroom. Plymouth news Twitter or news from Plymouth!!! These are just some of the searches people make when looking for positive news about Plymouth. This is why we at Cornerstone Vision do our best to find the type of optimistic stories Janners like to read.

Every week The Chronicle is distributed to over 20,000 homes in a different quarter of the city. This totals 92,000 homes every month. This is an amazing advertising resource but what is it that we like to read? “Based on the feedback we get from various sources, it’s not the clickbait type of headlines, which may be contrary to what you would expect,” says Chris Girdler who has edited The Plymouth Chronicle since its launch in April 2018.

“I constantly hear negative comments about the mainstream media and the way they cover local issues which do little to help the city by promoting it as a good place to be. While we are not in denial about some of the challenges Plymouth faces we like to think positively, making a genuine effort to present a favourable outlook for the city.

“That’s the one thing that’s really important for us at Cornerstone Vision – working alongside the Plymouth City Council and other organisations to promote our city. They recognise we are on their side and this positivity results in good feedback from our readers. In fact, research by Bournemouth University found nearly eight out ten people felt more enthusiastic and happy after engaging with positive content.  I think that’s pretty much proven, but so often, the good news doesn’t make headlines in the mainstream media.”

Upcoming positive news about Plymouth

In coming editions the Plymouth Chronicle will share more of the feel-good stories from across the various areas of the city including more local achievements, new developments and the top summer events. Much of The Chronicle’s content comes from local authorities, the education sector, charitable organisations, PR companies, and contact from the public.

“When it comes to positive news about Plymouth, I can fill the paper probably twice, three times over,” says Chris. “We get far more material than we can use, so it’s very much a selection process, choosing what we feel will be the stories that our readers will appreciate the most. There’s a large degree of informing, encouraging and carrying stories that will inspire.

“For instance, not everyone knows how hugely important the manufacturing sector is in Plymouth yet we have the largest number of employees in manufacturing this side of Birmingham. Plus, there is an active campaign to get the Plymouth airport open again.

Plymouth Sound National Marine Park is the first of its kind in the UK and Plymouth University is one of the world’s top five universities for marine research and teaching. We are also a major ferry port and fishing is still a large part of the economy despite the challenges facing the fishing industry.”

Largescale Plymouth events

Plymouth is also the home of many major events which we publicise including:

The Great Britain Sail Grand Prix, the Formula 1 Yacht Race held in Plymouth Sound for the first time last year and which attracted some 30,000 spectators in July 2022;

The British Firework Championships, the annual event which brings 50,000 to the city over two nights to see massive displays as six top pyrotechnic companies showcase their best work; and

The Plymouth Seafood and Harbour Festival at the Barbican in September

All these events create positive news about Plymouth which is well received across the city. The organisers of these events work very hard to attract people into the city, both locals as well as visitors.  Keep your eye out for the Plymouth Chronicle for our latest positive news about Plymouth coming through your door, if you live in the city and also available online.
